Hanoi doesn't go to bed early, and Hanoi nightlife comes in many styles: weekend walking streets and buskers around Hoan Kiem Lake, plastic stools and draught beer on Ta Hien, and the best bars tucked up staircases and down alleys. We checked every address and opening time below in October 2026; they run from easy evenings to very late nights.
Weekends: the Hoan Kiem walking streets
From 7 PM on Friday to midnight on Sunday, the streets around Hoan Kiem Lake close to traffic and fill with dance crews, street bands, folk games and half the city out for a stroll. It's free. Walk a lap of the lake, then drift into the Old Quarter. Holidays and big events can change or pause the schedule, so check before you go.
The lake is a 15–20 minute walk from Narcissus.
Ta Hien: draught beer on the pavement
By day Ta Hien is an ordinary little street. Around 8 PM the plastic stools spill out, bia hơi flows, and locals and backpackers sit elbow to elbow. Order a glass and a plate of fried fermented pork rolls (nem chua rán) and watch the street go by.
1900 Le Théâtre – 8B Tạ Hiện: one of Hanoi's biggest clubs, open since 2016 in the former Quang Lac theatre, with room for about 1,500 people. It made DJ Mag's Top 100 Clubs in 2024. Weekends bring guest DJs; event nights may carry a cover charge.
Cocktails and craft beer near the hotel
- Nê Cocktail Bar – 3B Tống Duy Tân: opened in 2017 and mixes Vietnamese ingredients; famous for its "phở cocktail". It placed 76th on Asia's 50 Best Bars 51–100 list in 2021. Cocktails cost about 130,000–280,000 VND.
- Jigger Cocktail & Wine Bar – 59 Nam Ngư: two floors, deep sofas, around 300 wines, open 6:30 PM–2 AM, with live jazz, R&B and acoustic nights.
- iBiero Craft Beer Station – 99 Lê Duẩn: across from Hanoi Station, beer brewed on site and meaty plates for sharing, 10 AM–11 PM.
Two bars on Asia's rankings
- The Haflington – 94 Hàng Mã: down an alley and up the stairs. In 2024 it became the first Vietnamese bar in the top 50 of Asia's 50 Best Bars.
- The Hudson Rooms – on the roof of the Capella hotel, 11 Lê Phụng Hiểu: 1920s New York style, on Asia's 50 Best Bars 51–100 list in 2025. Happy hour 5:30–7:30 PM daily; book ahead.
Live jazz
Binh Minh Jazz Club – 1 Tràng Tiền, right behind the Opera House. One of Hanoi's oldest jazz clubs, founded by saxophonist Quyền Văn Minh. Live music every night from about 9 PM; call ahead for a table near the stage.
Monuments by night
- Temple of Literature night tour (vanmieunighttour.com): 6:30–9:30 PM, with a 3D projection-mapping show from 7:45 to 8:45 PM. Tickets 299,000 VND, children 1–1.3 m tall 149,000 VND. The temple is a 10–15 minute walk from the hotel.
- Imperial Citadel night tour: usually on weekend evenings; dates and prices on hoangthanhthanglong.vn.
- Hoa Lo Prison night tour: often sold out, so book early at hoalo.vn.
- Thang Long Water Puppet Theatre – 57B Đinh Tiên Hoàng: several shows a day into the evening; most tickets are 100,000–150,000 VND.
Low-key, no alcohol needed
- Sunset on West Lake: walk Thanh Nien Road towards Tran Quoc Pagoda in the late afternoon. Hungry? Bánh tôm Hồ Tây – 1 Thanh Niên serves shrimp fritters at tables by the water.
- Thong Nhat Park and Thien Quang Lake: the park took down its fences and stopped charging entry at the end of 2022. In the evening it fills with walkers, runners and people sitting by the lake. Walk or cycle from the hotel; Narcissus Le Duan rents bicycles.
What about Train Street?
The question we get most. In 2026 the train-street cafés were cleared several times for encroaching on the railway safety corridor, and owners were fined for seating customers next to the tracks. Hanoi and the Ministry of Construction have also agreed to cut passenger trains and move freight off the Hanoi Station–Gia Lam section. Whether the cafés are open changes from one inspection to the next. If you go, never stand or sit on the tracks, and follow instructions from officials.
Hungry at midnight
- Cơm đảo Loan Mai – 2A Tống Duy Tân: fried rice with beef or chicken, open late and busiest after 9 PM.
- Gà tần Cây Si – 29 Tống Duy Tân: herbal chicken soup, open until about 11 PM–midnight.
- Xôi Yến – 35B Nguyễn Hữu Huân: sticky rice with toppings, until around midnight.
- Up all night? The "dân tổ" bánh mì stall at the Trần Nhật Duật – Cao Thắng corner sells from about 3 to 7 AM, and the famous phở gánh, now on phố Chợ Gạo, starts serving around 3:30 AM. Expect queues at both.
For proper meals, see where to eat near Hanoi Station; for coffee into the evening, nine cafés worth a seat.
Hanoi nightlife, safely
- Vietnam has zero tolerance for alcohol at the wheel, motorbikes included. If you've been drinking, take Grab, Xanh SM or a taxi.
- In the crowds on the walking streets and Ta Hien, keep your phone and wallet in a front pocket.
- Narcissus reception is open 24 hours. Narcissus Le Duan keeps quiet hours from 10 PM to 7 AM, so tiptoe in after a late night.
Opening hours and prices can change. Check the map before you head out, or ask Tiên, Narcissus's assistant, right here on the site.
